Memoirs of Kay Jay

|
NICHOLS, KATHRYN J., 79 - of Egg Harbor Township, departed this life on September 15, 2008, to be with her beloved husband William, and our Lord Jesus Christ, following a brief illness. Kay Jay was born and raised in the East Falls section of Philadelphia, and resided in Ocean City, later in life. She is survived by her three children: William F. Jr, of Egg Harbor Township, Charles L. of Sicklerville, and Katy J. Himes, of Egg Harbor Township; her brother, Gar Emmert of Philadelphia; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Throughout her long life, Kay Jay lived to make people happy, and this was obvious to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was an avid supporter of her church, St. Frances Cabrini, of Ocean City, and was a Eucharistic Minister, as well as a member of the church choir. Kay Jay was a lifelong doll collector and "the best doll doctor in South Jersey", where, over a twenty-four year period, she cured thousands of broken dollies, with the help of her daughter and partner, Katy, at their store in Ocean City, Kay Jay's Doll Shoppe. Kay Jay was a thirty-nine year active member of the Leticia Penn Doll Club of Philadelphia, and a former president of the Jersey Cape Doll and Toy Club. Kay Jay was also a fifty-year member of the Old Academy Players, a community theater in the East Falls section of Philadelphia. |

I am so sorry of the loss of your mother. She must have been one remarkable lady. The wonderful write-up in the Press today was the first article that I read this morning. It was a lovely legacy to her. I am so glad that you have her shoppe and will continue her work. And that your girls works along with you. I think that is wonderful. You have lovely girls, even though I have only meet Maggie and Jamie. It seems that so many young girls do not have or play with dolls anymore. What a shame! Dolls are a big part of my life also. I collect mostly Ashton-Drake Dolls but have several others. Even one that has her own cradle and I put her to bed every night. LOL My condolences again to you and your family. My prayers and thoughts are with you. Peace, Katie G 9/27/08 |

I was so
saddened and shocked to learn about your loss. I have visited your
Doll Shoppe each year (for many) when I come to
Ocean City during
the summer. I was always so warmly welcomed by Kay Jay and truly
enjoyed my visits to the Doll Shoppe. She was a great lady! My
deepest sympathies
to all the family. May she rest in peace.

Thank you for your e-mail. I was so sorry to hear that your Mother passed away. She was a lovely woman. I always enjoyed speaking with her at your shop. I visited Kay Jay's for the first time shortly before she moved to Asbury Avenue. Since then, no trip to the Avenue would be complete without a stop at Kay Jay's. My thoughts and prayers to you and your family. Sincerely, Barbara M 9/22/08 |

I just read about "Kay Jay" passing on her web site. "To be absent from the body, is to be present with the LORD." May GOD console and put HIS loving arms around those she left here on earth. She is in a far better place resting in the arms of our LORD and SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST. Sheila H. 9/19/08 |
